PROTECT PUBLIC EDUCATION
MEET KURTIS
Dad & Husband
For the past eight years, Skye & I have called Clarington home. It’s where we are raising our two children, who both attend local public schools.
Experienced Public Servant
A dedicated municipal public servant with over a decade of experience in local administration and public service. From early civic leadership on the Durham Youth Council to roles within the public library system and municipal government, I have consistently worked to build stronger, more resilient communities that support local families and foster equitable access to public services.
Small Business Owner
Principal of Lakeside Communications, bringing strict fiscal responsibility and strategic planning to the table.
A MESSAGE FROM KURTIS
My commitment to education, youth leadership, and civic engagement runs deep. Early in my public service journey, I proudly served as the Chair of the Durham Youth Council, an experience that ignited my lifelong passion for amplifying young voices and fostering community growth.
Now, with over a decade of experience in public service and community-focused communication roles, I have dedicated my professional life to building bridges, listening to people, and delivering real results.
While my professional background gives me the tools to advocate effectively, it’s my family that drives my passion. For the past eight years, my wife and I have proudly called Clarington home. Together, we are raising our two wonderful children, who are currently navigating their own journeys through our local school system.
Seeing our education system through the eyes of my own kids gives me a firsthand understanding of the successes and challenges families face today. I truly believe that strong schools are built on collaborative, open communication between parents, educators, and the board.
I'm not just running to be a voice on the board, I’m running to ensure that your family has a dedicated, approachable ally championing the future of our children.
Putting Student Achievement and Success First
Our schools should focus on the fundamentals that set students up for lifelong success. I am committed to supporting strong foundational programs in literacy and math, while also expanding experiential learning pathways like co-op and the trades. Every child learns differently, and I will advocate to ensure our educators have the tools, resources, and classroom support they need to help every single student thrive.
Transparent Communication and Active Parent Engagement
As a parent and communications professional, I know that our school system works best when parents have a real seat at the table. I will use my professional background to champion clear, timely, and accessible communication between the school board and our community. I want to strengthen the partnership between families, school councils, and trustees so that your voice is heard before major decisions are made.
Creating Safe, Healthy, and Supportive Environments
Every child deserves to learn in a safe, modern, and welcoming space. I will prioritize student well-being by advocating for robust mental health resources, addressing local school infrastructure needs, and ensuring our classrooms are safe environments where students can focus on learning, building friendships, and growing into future leaders.
Directing Resources Where They Matter Most: The Classroom
I believe in strong fiscal accountability and responsible budgeting. My priority will always be ensuring that your education tax dollars are placed exactly where they make the biggest impact, directly into our classrooms to support front-line educators, special education resources, student programs, and modern learning technology.
